History

The beginning was in '86 at IMEH Club, lead by engineers Stratan and Buzea. In those days came to club: Bogdan Creanga, Sorin Balaban, Nicolae Gamulea, Sandu Teodor, Cristian Badara. The strongest player was Bogdan Creanga who won "What's your ratting" by Miyamoto.

First attended competitions were: Cluj, May '86; Brasov, November '86 (teams); Timisoara, March '87. Next was a relax period, even if we were attended a competition in September '89.

In '90 was a come back. Leader and most active in club, was Iulian Ilie.  He organized all. (Can be mentioned that at one FRGo Congress (94 I think) Galati Go club was mentioned as the only one legally registered.) In that period we organized the finals of Romanian Cup in '94.

In '95 we have also organized finals here but it was not the same success. Costel Pintilie barely succeed to do it, but with the help of Emilian Dima. Without his help we would play in japanese style, I mean on the floor of University hall.

As any "respectable" Romanian Go Club, we always was looking for a place where to play. (A whole year we played at one of us home). A good point in our activity was the joining of an american professor Bob Lamming. In fact his teaching room was for one year the place for our meetings.

The best result of our club was the third place at a national team competition. The team was: Bob Lamming, Cristian Zamfirache, Liviu Nestor and Costel Pintilie .

In those years the number of players increased. The most active ones were: Iulian Ilie, Costel Pintilie, Sandu Teodor. The best players: Marian Zilisteanu, Bogdan Creanga, Iulian Ilie, Cristian Zamfirache, Liviu Nestor. Other players were: Emilian Dima, Alexandru Ilie, Vasiloanca Codrin, Sorin Balaban, Nicu Dobre, Bogdan Stanescu, Radu Popescu, Paul Spinu, Cristian Dinu, Mihai Culea, Adrian Iancu, Adrian Pletea, Costel Zaharia, Cristi Manea, Florin Dima, Mircea Nuca, and some others.

A kind of swan song was attending at European Go Congress Tuchola, in '95 by Cristian Zamfirache and Costel Pintilie (who succeeded to come back with a book and 100 DM as prizes).

As you saw above, there were few prizes. Beside those there were a few others, but not very important, so we do not bothered to record them. We can wash our pride telling that we play for pleasure, not for hunting prizes :))
